.. something i forget i guess the last weeks... sorry for that :)

As far as Cape Town goes it has been great!

Weather is going from warm to hot! Sun is shining almost every day, and the city comes more and more to life!

What have i been doing the last couple of weeks... well i've been to jeffrey's bay on a trip along the garden route. What a great place that is! Great surfing and very chilled town!

Had some nice parties here in cape town, and have been surfing a lot. With my new surfboard... still not a pro, but learning slowly how to stand up!

Been sandboarding... great fun!

Went to a concert of Live! Great band, and what a performance!

We have a new room mate, Linette, also from Holland. Nice girl and great addition to Silverstream.

Well for the rest... i hope to put in some pictures here as well.. soonish

Coming up in december is an awesome trip through Africa (Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe) and meeting up with Judith in Namibia! That's gonna be great and then parents comin over before New Years as well... busy times.

How nice is a weekend

...because you have so much time to do things. Things i did where nice, but i wish i had been able to do more things.

For instance, i bought a surfboard this weekend. But i didnt get to surf. I went to the beach, but the wind blew us away. The same goes for saturday night, we went out at opium on saturday, and partied with prince harry (well i saw him partying, but still i'm sure he respected our party skills as well), but i didnt get him to make me king of schotland. Also made an awesome u-turn in front of the nelson hotel, but the wheels stayed on the ground. Had an awesome braai at stu's new place, but didnt get to stay too long as we tried to surf once again. Only to arrive in muizenberg, and find out that we are too late. Drive back through a township, and shit our pants.

Well there is always next weekend...

Update of some sort

Just a small update, to keep the blog going...

So what has happened since the last update, quite a lot.

- Sebastian has left the apartment :(
- Had a very big farewell/last night going out with Sebastian and friends
- Got an ulcer as a result of that night and many before.. or cuz of bad food/stress, take ur pick
- Spent that weekend with Stuart and Susi, went to airshow, had some classy dinner...
- Stuart left the following week as well :(
- Had a last party in the flat
- New roommate Douglas arrived, and new roommate Louisa
- Had a week of going out without drinking...
- Went to Stellenbosch on Friday with new roommates
- Had a nice student party there and went out in Stellenbosch
- Tasted some wine at some vineyards
- Went to rugby match
- Went out on saturday, got rejected to enter at Opium... the girls looked to young...
- Did nothing on sunday

Earth Dance festival

Last weekend I went to the Earth Dance festival, with other Dutch interns in Cape Town. The festival started on Saturday morning, we arrived in the afternoon. The weather was a bit shitty in the beginning, raining and cold. But after a few beers this was fine.

We confiscated a BBQ and made it our fire place, after buying some wood in the ghetto next to the festival area. After we called some late-comers to bring a BBQ, we had a nice little braai as well. In the meantime, John has locked his carkeys inside the car, and almost smashing in his window (did u know that a mercedes key can be used on most other mercedes...not sure if i am happy with that).

The rest that follows is much alcohol, partying and little sleep.

Finally got the camera hooked up on the notebook again and so got some more pics to show.

First I am now a member of the Aquarium, pretty stupid, but it was just a bit more then visiting once. So now I can visit the Aquarium all year *yay*!

Saturday went out for dinner with the 'Silverstream gang' at the sublime Ocean Basket for Sebastians last night out in Cape Town. Then on Sunday we planned the trip to Robben Island... at 11 in the morning.

Felt alright, but in the small rooms of the prison almost filled the historic prison with Ocean Basket food from the night before, but some fresh air did me well.

In all seriousness. It was quite amazing to hear about all the cruelties that took place during the Apartheid. But also what a spirit most prisoners there had/achieved. By learning and not hating but forgiving they came out as stronger human beings. And like our tourguide said, former prisoner of Robben Island, 'racism is never good, we are all human beings'.

R.I.P. Steve Irwin aka 'Crocodile Hunter'

Today is a sad day, as one of my rolemodels has past away...

The man who was crazy enough to catch thousands of crocodiles, and other lethal animals, died today doing what he loved most. While filming an underwater documentary he got stung by one, and died on his way to the hospital.

Although very sad, especially for those he leaves behind, it is good to know he died doing what he loves most.

Respect goes to all the crazy people doing things they love to do!

Trip to Cape of Good Hope

To enjoy the beautifull weather that has arrived in Cape Town, A very sunny 25 Degrees Celsius, and to test the Merc a roadtrip was organized. This weekend with Sebastian and Katja to Cape of Good Hope, the most South Western point of the African continent.

An early rise after some irregular nights, so it was a tiring ride, but the scenery is amazing. The Mercedes, aka Hyacinth, slowed down a bit on the steep hills, but she came through. Not using too much fuel, I am very happy with the big girl. I already scratched it driving it the first day and one of the wheel covers is a bit damaged (damn parallel parking), but she did well.

On our way to the Cape we stopped in Simonstown, at Boulders beach, where there is a Penguin colony. They live there on the beach and it is also possible to swim with them, but unfortunately didnt bring our swimming gear, although the smell was not very inviting.

It is advised not to bring food out of your car and lock you car. The baboons had gotten to the parking lot and were having a field day. After seeing a baboon stealing the chips of the guy parked next to us, we saw this mother baboon jumping in a minivan and grabbing some lunch.

Ignite and Hyacinth

With Hyacinth we drove to Ignite and had a good time. She held up very well, the hill before you get to the gates of the apartment park was a real challenge for her, but she made it.

Ignite is a pretty cool club as well, on the ocean drive, with many pretty people being pretty.

And so I finally have got the pictures on the web. Moved into this apartment last weekend, and I took a picture after it was cleaned, so you can see the might and awesomeness of the apartment!

So after moving into my apartment, I wanted to climb the Table Mountain, and convinced Sebastian to come with me, who was pretty hungover. Although it looked like he would have trouble climbing the mountain, I was struggling badly. As we also started climbing late in the afternoon, we almost missed the last cable car down... but after a long climb I made it and the views are amazing. Like I said we didnt have much time on the top, so I am definetly coming back to check out all the views from the top.

Besides the beautifull views and the amazing apartment I also experienced another side of South Africa this week. Easy Tiger Tourism supports a trust fund, TCD, which helps setup several projects in the townships of Cape Town. And this week there was an opening of a school and soup kitchen of Rosie, who started these projects by setting up a pre-school 20 years ago. My boss, Andre, invited me to the opening and here are the pictures.

Living in Cape Town

Since last weekend I am now officially living in Cape Town, since I have moved into my apartment at Disa Park. On the edges of Table Mountain, the view is awesome, I have taken some pictures but cant upload them just yet, but below are the three apartment buildings. The left one, Silverstream, is the one I am staying.

When I came to the apartment on Saturday it was pretty messy. The guy that was in there before me had left just one day before I came, and they had been partying pretty hard for his last week. So that made the place a bit shabby. My room mates, Stuart and Sebastian, came back later that day on Saturday and we went out for a bit and on Sunday me and Sebastian climbed the Table Mountain. They cleaned the room Sunday morning, and it now looks awesome!

Anyone planning a trip overlanding africa, going from Southern Africa to East Africa? You should definetly join the free Overlanding Africa Competition.

I helped making this competition, so even for my efforts I think you should just visit the site and check it out.

Overlanding Africa is an expert on these kind of trips and you can do a lot of crazy things like skydiving, quad-biking, white water safari's. But there is also a lot of safari's and wildlife encounters.

Lunch Long Street Cafe

Lunch in Cape Town on Long Street is not a problem, in fact most of the popular bars and restaurants in Cape Town are on Long Street. And the first lunch of me in Long Street then also had to be in the Long Street Cafe. This café is located on the North side of Long Street, conveniently close to the office of Drive South Africa.

The lunch(es) I enjoyed at the Long Street Café was a Thai Wrap with peanut sauce. The wrap itself was filled with stir fried chicken and veggies, with spices and a soy sauce. All in all it is a very spicy dish, for a reasonable price. Today I went to for Lunch at Long Street Cafe again, just because I am lazy, very lazy. And this time I had a chicken/avocado burger, on recommendation of the waiter, and it was very nice as well.

The café itself is a traditional bar and the service is very friendly. The café has a nice bar area, which is a mix of a sports bar and a business café, they also show football and other sports at the Long Street Cafe. Which is a good thing so close to work...

First Day of work @ Drive South Africa

Yesterday I had my first day of work after staying just a couple of days in Cape Town, checking out the city and all. The office of Drive South Africa is in a side street of Long Street, and it is about a 15 min walk from the hostel, so that is fine. The Long street is 'the street' in Cape Town, and has a lot of bars and clubs. The Kloofstreet is a pretty well-known street as well, but than for its restaurants.

The first day of work was very nice, the work looks to be very interesting and the collegues are very nice as well. I am gonna focus on online marketing and promoting the company through the internet. It is really interesting to see how the online marketing works, and if I have any ideas I can promote through using other media as well like making pictures and video to get attention to the site.

I am also buying a car at Drive South Africa, a Golf 1, because I am moving in to an appartment a bit further from work next week. And it is just easier having a car in Cape Town.

Here some more photos of the trip through New Zealand.

We started off the trip in Christchurch and then headed off to Hamner Springs.

Hamner is a spa town, with some hot springs, surrounded by some awesome looking mountains.

From Hamner we continued the next day to Kaikoura, a town on the ocean where we wanted togo whalewatching, unfortunatly a storm hit the coast and we had to settle for seals...

New Zealand update

And so the trip in New Zealand begins....

Left for Manly beach, Sydney, early in the week and stayed there for a couple of days. Very nice beach and one of the nicer parts of Sydney, definetly some place i'd like to go back to. And then after that we said goodbye to Zarry and got on the plane to New Zealand.

Flight was pretty late and were pretty tired when we got there, but went out and hostel was pretty nice. Next day we left to Hamner springs, was pretty nice and very relaxed. The hostel was very small and next day went for a walk up the mountain. Then drove upto Kaikoura and had another nice night there, scenery was pretty boring cause it was raining, but got to see some seals.

After headed back to Christchurch to go see the rugby game which the canberrians lost, but the atmosphere was very good. Had another nice night there and then headed to Dunedin. Where we stayed with a friend of ayla and stayed there for two days. Nice to not drive for one day....

Today arrived in Queenstown, surroundings look very amazing, but havent got the time yet to see much. Tomorrow going for a hike up a mountain and see some more of New Zealand...

So now my final week of school has started. As glad I am that school is over, it is also sad to leave. I had a great time here, so leaving isn't fun.

But heh, I am going to New Zealand next week so who's complaining.

The last couple of weeks have been good, with last week another karaoke night and after that a lot of going out. Also went to a Rugby game, of the local team the Brumbies (they won with 29-0). The International Cuisine dinner was before that and went really well as well, was a lot of fun to do. The cooking went pretty well, and I spent 16 hours in the kitchen, but we pulled it off. The exams are now almost over and I passed all classes (well results are not in yet, but im pretty sure), so that's done as well. Have to get all things sorted out before I leave, so still looking for internship and really have to get things organized.

And yea.. now the last week, which is basically going to be a lot of partying as it seems now, and then saying good bye to everyone.

Bought a ticket to New Zealand, leaving on 9 May for a 15 day trip of the South, possibly the North Island as well. That means bungee jumping, zorba, Maui and beatifull landscapes....

Had 'family night' with ayla, pamela, zarry, allie and tom, @ tomsplace last week and the week before. First BBQ and last week pizza's with Vodka and wine.

Went to sydney for the easter show with class on monday, after the family night on sunday. Not much sleep and long ride for 3 hours of easter show.

Busy with school for projects and everything, also looking for a placement for my internship.

Got a bit of a fever sinds yesterday, but getting better.

Melbourne continued

Ok so time for some more pictures of the beautiful city of Melbourne. The trip itself wasa very cool and we spent most days going into the city and visiting the festival of the commonwealth games. Well we also spend some time in the bars and clubs of Melbourne, but this was just a minor part of the whole visit to Melbourne (NOT). Spend a lot of money on all the essentials, beer, wine, vodka, bourban, lunch and dinner.

Our hostel, 16-bed room, pretty roomy. The bunk bed beside mine seemed to need some repairing, or maybe that was something else (?)

Public transport is very well organized in Melbourne, mainly because of the trams. Apparently there is no fee to be paid, or at least not really, well you should pay a fee, but they never check it. But I of course paid a fee everytime...

Common Wealth Games, bike time trial at St Kilda. Very nice beach area, didnt swim water pretty dirty, but very nice boulevard.

Ok this was about it. More recently, last week was pretty busy. Lots of assignments and presentation for events, but we aced it so thats all good. Had another crazy night at the RUC, probably craziest ever. And weekend was very fun with a picknick at the Lake and sunday at A-Tom's place for dinner.

Nou alles goed hier weer in Canberra. maar het is wel even wennen en een groot verschil met Melbourne. Van drukke straten, en een stad met ongeveer 3.5 miljoen mensen naar Canberra de meest stille stad van Australie...

En dan nu ook vrij druk met school met allemaal projecten die aan hun einde komen, dus ik zal even snel wat foto's laten zien van Melbourne.

Hier een foto dichtbij Federation Square, naast Central Station. Erg druk want de ticket verkoop voor de Games waren hier en het is gewoon altijd een druk kruispunt.

Het Festival waar we ongeveer 4/5 dagen geweest zijn. In het begin niet elke dag maar de laatste paar dagen bijna de hele dag (ongeveer vanaf 3 uur, elke nacht dus tsja..) en avond op het festival terrein in Alexandra Gardens hier op foto of Federation Square.

Op Maandag naar het MCG, Melbourne Cricket Ground, geweest voor de Games. De 100m Mens final gezien en een ongelooflijk lawaai. Super atmosfeer en de Aussies zijn echte sport liefhebbers, dus dat is altijd goed. Ticket op laatste moment gekocht dus dat maakt het ook extra gaaf.

Binnenkort meer foto's, digitale fotocamera is ook een beetje gaar aan het doen maar kan ook de computer hier zijn...

Ok nu niet allemaal tegelijk :p

Oh en Melbourne was geweldig. Enorme stad, zoveel gezien en gedaan. Commonwealth games was geweldig in het MCG stadion met 80.000 mensen, een gratis openlucht festival met fantastische muziek (Juut echt een geweldig festival met zeer goede muziek), lange nachten. Later meer, nu eerst slapen...

Melbourne here we come!

Finally bought a ticket to Melbourne, 1-way ticket for 70 Dollars. Pretty good, i reckon. From the initial 10 people going to Melbourne, only 3 are actually coming through. Me, Zarry and Robin are going, but others are dropping by in Melbourne for a couple of days i believe. I admit I am jealous of the two girls going to Fiji, but that is just out of the budget and Melbourne is pretty cool as well i gotta say, with the Commonwealth Games it should be pretty cool. We're leaving this weekend on Sunday morning at 6:45, ouch!, but luckily Jodie is the kindest person on this planet and will drive us there.

We also booked a hostel for the first 4 days, the Bakpak (catchy name), right in the center of the city. After that we might be able to stay at a friend of Zarry, but she has never seen him cause he is a friend of a friend of a friend or something... so we will have to wait and see bout that, but thats to far ahead to even think about. Also hoping to go to the Commonwealth Games, but we will decide when we are there, the Canadians of course want to support Canadia, and myself being an honorary Canadian with official papers I will support them as well.

To adress another point: When even my little niece complaints i should have more photos, something is going wrong, so I will take more pictures and put them up here. I'll get some more photo's from other people, cause there enough pictures taken so that is definetly not the problem...

One of the courses I am following is International Cuisine, which basically is cooking in the kitchen. This in itself is a lot of fun, messing around and actually making a proper meal, which btw taste really good. The teacher is a bit boring at times when he gives a whole instruction on all the ingredients in a very monotone voice, but he is a good chef.

There are some ingredients not for the faint harted such as the belly of pork with teats attached, pigs legs, chicken lung and fish paste which smells like dogcrap mixed with cat pee. But besides that the cooking is good fun.

My team is me, Allie and Pamela. You can recognize us in the picture sitting in the middle with the baseball caps.

These are banana leaf rolls a la Arne, which I must admit where a little bit overcooked and rubbery, but still tasted pretty good.

Ik hou niet een dagboek ofzo iets bij, dus een chronologische photo tour is iets te ingewikkeld blijkt. Daarom schrijf ik nu gewoon een lulverhaal met wat foto's die daar bij passen. Met als thema: uitgaan in Canberra.

Dit is iets waar je kort en lang over kunt lullen. Dit komt met name door het feit dat er niet echt een uitgaansgebied is waar iedereen is. Het centrum, Civic, is zeker het drukst en heeft de meeste echt clubs. Ik ken ze niet allemaal maar ze zijn op twee handen te tellen. Muziek is meeste house, maar ook pubs met meer populaire muziek. Dus in principe een prima uitgaansgebied, alleen is het vrij ver van het hotel. Taxi terug is meestal betaalbaar als je met groep gaat, dus in principe prima.

Maar er zijn meer opties, zo heb je vlakbij Manuka, een posh wijk met allemaal hippe tents en ook een paar clubs/pubs waar je uit kunt gaan. Hier ben ik zelf nog niet geweest maar de verhalen zijn wisselend. Het is zeker makkelijk omdat het 10 min lopen is, alleen is er niet echt veel. Wel belangrijk is dat er daar ook een bottle-o is, aka Gall & Gall, waar je goedkoop drinken in kunt slaan.

Naast Manuka ligt Kingston, een iets minder opvallende wijk, maar wel met een paar goeie bars. Een ierse pub, die altijd wel gezellig zijn en nog een paar bars met goede muziek en sfeer. Kingston ligt ongeveer op de zelfde afstand, alleen zeggen sommigen dat het dichterbij is terwijl anderen claimen dat het verder is. Maakt dus niet veel uit, maar het is wel een goeie plek om uit te gaan.

Dit zijn de plekken waar ik geweest ben, maar je hebt ook nog andere buitenwijken met meer bars/pubs etc., maar deze liggen vrij ver weg en dus niet in de mogelijkheden... dichtbij ligt ook nog het Old Parliament House, waar elke vrijdag happy hour is en dus redelijk betaalbaar. Het is wel enorm duur, maar er is wel goede muziek en relaxte sfeer. Veel business people en erg hip.

En dan finally de RUC, een rugbyclubhouse om de hoek van het hotel, waar we het meest zijn geweest waarschijnlijk. Niet omdat dit nou een geweldige plek is, maar ja het ligt wel erg dichtbij... En het is vaak ook gezellig omdat de hotelschool studenten ongeveer de enige klanten zijn. Er zijn wel veel andere regular guests, maar die ken je ook allemaal wel ongeveer. Hoewel het heel vaak wel gezellig is, is het ook te dichtbij om echt van uitgaan te spreken. Te veel bekende gezichten, en dus zijn we er de laatste tijd niet vaak geweest.

Mardi Grass party was erg gezellig gister, alleen moesten we wel een halfuur terug lopen. Foto's moet ik even via andere regelen, zijn erg grappig..

The Photo Tour - Part 2

And now to continue the photo tour, I present to you the Australian countryside. I took a photo during the busride, not a very special one, but still. The hills in the back are about the same as in Canberra itself. It was also one of the rare days in Australia for me that it was cloudy. No rain, but just some clouds...

In the first couple of days I havent taken many pictures, and started to taking photos some time later. The next picture is one from my room, which as mentioned before is pretty decent. The best thing of course is the service, which cleanes and changes the linen every week. At this very moment my bed is being cleaned, and that makes it very liveable. To the left of the picture is also a sink and mirror and there are two closets in the room, enough for my huge collection of clothes... The hallway is close to the dining area and to most other things, which doesnt mean anything cause it is all close but he. Only minus point i can think of is the fact that there are all ANU students in my hallway, which you dont see that much cause they got different schedule and all.

Then after two weeks I brought my camera along to finally take some pictures. On a recovery night from all the alcohol I went with Prana (rightside), Daphne (centre), Nick (tip of hair in background) and Freya (left) to the Pancake Parlour. The rest was going for a big night out, and as my budget didnt allow this I went for pancakes instead. Which turned out to be a good choice, as the pancakes where great. Not the original Dutch pancakes, but real American big ones with maple sirup and ice cream.

Next time more pictures of other people and of Canberra, but right now I dont feel like sitting behind the computer anymore. Uploading takes long.... but here is a last picture of last weeks International Cuisine class. The theme of the week was Vietnam, but it were dishes from all South East Asia. With all the raw ingredients you would expect for such a thing, like crab and pork with teats still on it... Team AAP (Arne, Allie, Pamela) made the best banana leaf roles, with salad and stir fried chicken, and the dinner was great. The week before was Thais, and more to my liking, but still it was very good. Spicy!

The Photo Tour

Finally I have taken the time to get the photos of the camera and now I have found the time to put them on the net. I have also called home for the first time and will send cards soon (dont be disappointed if you dont get one, old people come first) Especially since it is not cheap, altough that shouldnt matter of course... but it does ;)

Ok, now the photos.

We begin of course with the departure at Schiphol. Too early for me to even smile, but it was a nice departure and I was excited to go. Judith of course brought in the emotional outburst that is usual when someone leaves, or maybe that is just Juut...

Here is a picture of my first day in Sydney, when i visited Darling Harbor. It is in walking distance of the hostel and has a very chilled atmosphere. Close to some big hotels and fancy restaurants, it is a parade of the hip crowd. And of course in the background the bridge and Monorail.

And here we have the sight of all sights in Sydney, of course i have to have a picture of the Opera House. This picture is taken whilst standing on the Harbor Bridge.

And this one is from closer by...

Here we have another sight maybe even more impressive, the Sydney Harbor Bridge. When they started building it, the aim was to make it the longest one arched bridge in the world, but when finished the Americans made one 0.25 cm longer, still a touchy subject. It doesnt look to long, but is quite a long walk.

And here is a view of the city itself, with all major skycrapers insight. Basically this is the city center, which is of course stretching out untill the hostel. To the left is the Opera House, to the right is Darling Harbor and China Town.

And here are some pictures of going out in Sydney, these are taken in the hostel bar below Wake Up. It was the last night, and as I dont really bring my camera to a bar, it was good that I finally took some pictures. And I think I have mentioned this before, maybe in Dutch but I dont remember all names which is pretty bad, and I apologize to anyone who happens to read this and is on a picture, but tough luck to you then!

Een week sober

Laatste week was vrij druk met onverwacht huiswerk, waarom is mij niet bekend ik dacht dat dit vakantie was, en vrij vermoeiend. Na de Hawaii party kwam een vrij vage nacht omdat Simon een jongen die in de kamer naast mij zat een beetje van de wereld was. Blijkbaar had hij medicijnen genomen de avond ervoor nadat we redelijk wat hadden gedronken op woensdag. Nadat hij naar het ziekenhuis was gebracht is hij die avond nog weer op een rampage gegaan en heeft ook wat meisjes lastig gevallen. Volgende dag was hij er nog niet helemaal bij en is uit school gekickt de volgende dag.

Voor de meeste was het allemaal niet een prettige ervaring en was de stemming dus een beetje down. Prana, meisje uit Indonesie die ook IBS studeert, en Daphne, een andere exchange student van Singapore, waren vooral lsstig gevallen door hem. En tijdens het ontbijt kwam hij even bij ons staan, nog steeds niet helemaal clean, maar ging al vrij snel weer weg en de meiden waren blij dat ik tussen hun in zat... ja niet echt vrolijke stemming op die dag

Weekend dat volgde ben ik niet echt veel uit geweest, alleen op zaterdag geloof ik (tja mijn geheugen is niet zo goed). Maar dit was wel goed voor mijn portemenee. Ik ben overdag nog wel naar de Canberra Show geweest met de helft van team Canada (Ayla, Zarry, Pamela), een enorme show met allemaal farm animals en circus attracties. We hebben daar wat rondgelopen en wat shows bekeken, ook een super grappige pig race en een cannonball woman.

De week die volgde was het vrij druk als gezegd eerder, met presentaties en ander huiswerk. Tijdens de week zijn we ook nog een paar keer uitgeweest en afgelopen paar dagen elke avond. Meeste avonden gingen we naar de RUC, een rugby club, maar dat begint ook wel saai te worden dus was het relaxt om een keer ergens anders heen te gaan. We gingen op zaterdag naar Kingston, waar we de dag eerder ook al waren maar ik mocht niet naar binnen omdat ik mijn rijbewijs niet bij me had, maar was waarschijnlijk omdat ik slippers aan had... was een vrij dure tent dus ze hadden daar geen zin in.

Zaterdag was zeer relaxt met bijna de hele avond buiten gezeten in Kingston en daarna Kingston park even besproeid te hebben, weer terug naar de hotel. Daarna nog een floor picnic gehad in Ayla's room met Allie, een meid uit Australie die hier laatste term nu doet. Nog Judith's CD laten horen en ze konden niet geloven dat dat mijn zus was. Melodic Rootz is going international... Zondag was ook vrij relaxt en heb de Da Vinci Code ook even gelezen, super goed boek einde iets minder, en we hebben collectief ook afgesproken een week niet te drinken. Alleen kwam Allie 3 uur geleden in de library vragen of ik mee naar de RUC ging...

ok ik ga nu voor nog een biertje naar de RUC...

Hawaii Party

Nog een paar foto's van de hawaii party van afgelopen week. Was een beetje een last minute party, dus niet heel geslaagd. Muziek was ook niet geregeld, dus we hadden alleen muziek via een van de kamers. Daarom gingen we al vrij snel door na de RUC, rugby union club, ongeveer 100 m van de school, waar we de meeste avonden heengaan om nog wat verder te feesten.

De foto's zijn genomen door Ms Neil, de vrouw van een van de leraren (Mr Neil ;) ) , op zich heel aardig en heel amerikaans, maar zijn lessen zijn wel oersaai, want hij zit zich zelf en zijn vrouw in de hemel te prijzen, en lult aan een stuk door over helemaal niks... maar goed de tests schijnen niet heel moeilijk te zijn dus dat is dan ook wel prima

Sydney is a great city

Dag 3

S'avonds uitgegaan in Sydney met de hele commonwealth, Engelsen Ieren en Canadezen, veel bier. Ook nog langs een echte Cheers bar geweest, maar voor de rest was het niet veel bijzonders qua uitgaan, wel veel gelachen om de Engelse humor.

Day 4

De laatste dag in Sydney.

De dag ervoor heb ik de stad al wat meer verkent, en de Opera House en alle andere tourists sights 'ontdekt'... alleen zonder foto toestel dus is het een goede reden om weer down town de tourist uit te hangen.

De wandeling van de hostel naar de Sydney Harbor, en Opera House lijkt vrij lang op de kaart, maar je wandelt recht door het centrum door de stad dus er is genoeg te zien. Het is vooral het business hart waar je door heen crosst, en je krijgt respect voor alle business lui in hun pakken die buiten in 40 graden Celsius hun lunch en cigarretje roken. Ik heb alleen een andere route genomen deze keer, omdat ik ook nog over de Sydney Harbour Bridge wil lopen en loop daarom door een klein wijkje 'The Rocks'. Het doet een beetje Middellandse Zee achtig aan, en is vlakbij het centrum. Bij de brug aangekomen blijkt dat je ook een tour onder de brug kunt nemen hangend aan een touwtje, Australiers proberen van alles een avontuur te maken, maar dat kost ook vrij veel geld dus ik loop tot halverwege de brug en dan richting Opera house.

Meer foto's en touristen, bij een gebouw dat niet echt heel bijzonder is, vooral als de zon niet schijnt, want de reflectie is wel 'impressive' doordat er allemaal plaatjes van marmer ? opliggen. Vanaf de Opera House nog even door een parkje gelopen terug naar het hostel, waar ik na wat eten weer even wat jet-lag...

S'avonds maakt Fraser mij, en een nieuw Engels meisje, wakker om naar de bar te gaan. De dag ervoor kwam zij vrij vroeg binnen stormen, iets te vroeg.., maar is een aardige meid en we gaan naar de bar met de buren en andere. Een duitse (oostenrijker) jongen die op surfles is maak ik later nog wakker als ik mijn camera ophaal, maar hij is 'zu tired ja', en de laatste avond is verder de beste zover. Genoeg bier en eindelijk ook goede muziek dus er wordt gedanst...

Dag 5

Volgende ochtend vroeg in de morgen op, en alles bij elkaar schrapen. Behalve de pepermuntjes, vergeet ik niks, maar de rest vind de 'mints' ook te lekker dus dat maakt niet uit. Na snel ontbijt, met niet te vreten cereal, ik moet echt leren dat te eten blijkt dat 90% van de wereld het wel eet, snel naar de bus. Ticket al dag ervoor gekocht, en verder no problemo's.

Tijdens de rit naar Canberra zie ik eindelijk wat van Australische countryside, hoewel het niet spectaculair is, zie je wel hoe ruig het land is. Dichterbij Canberra wordt het al wat meer heuvelachtig en zijn er kleine bergjes te herkennen.

Bij aankomst bel ik even naar de school en ze komen er al aan want ze halen nog iemand op, blijkbaar ook van IBS, ene Freya die German Track studeert. Ze is niet op het station en komt de volgende dag aan. In Sydney had ik ook al even gecommuniceerd met de school over de pcik-up en bedankt pap voor de message in de hostel, had ik het mobiele nummer makkelijk bij de hand.

Nou dit was het weer even, ik ga binnenkort serieus foto's uploaden, want ik heb het gister even geprobeerd op school network maar dat gaat super langzaam dus doe ik het nu even op een breedband computer lost van het netwerk. Verder gister leuke Hawaii party gehad, en iemand die iets teveel gehad had. Simon, eerstejaars en in kamer naast mij had iets teveel medicijnen genomen en liep als een zombie door school. Verder niks ernstigs gebeurd, maar ik geloof niet dat iedereen het even relaxt vond.

The trip begins

He iedereeen,

Ik zal deze post even gebruiken om wat terug te kijken op de laatste paar dagen. Ik heb al wat door gemaild in de afgelopen tijd, maar verder niet echt veel tijd en zin om een heel verhaal te gaan zitten typen. Het is nu ook serieus goed weer buiten, maar iedereen heeft les nu, dus gebruik ik de tijd om even wat op te schrijven.

Dag 1

Vlucht naar Sydney was superlang, en ook vermoeiend. Was wel een mooie gelegenheid om alle laatste films even te zien, maar je ritme wordt er wel door verstoord. Aankomst in Singapore was echt supermooi, lijkt me echt een supergafe stad en mensen op campus die er geweest zijn of zelfs vandaan komen vertellen ook dat het heel bijzonder is, daar moeten we dus ook maar een keer heen.

Na de transfer op Singapore, nog wat geslapen in de gate, ging de reis verder met SA naar Sydney. Wat ook mooie uitzichten gaf, vliegen over de Indische Oceaan en vervolgens over Australia. De outback is van boven echt een grote rode woestijn, en geen leven te bekennen. We vlogen ook blijkbaar nog over Ayers Rock, niet gezien, maar de omgeving daar was echt supermooi. Als ik de tijd heb wil ik zekers naar Ayers Rock, schijnt echt supermooi te zijn, een grote steen midden in de woestijn. Voor de Abbo's (Aborignals) is het ook een religieus steentje, en ze hebben ook liever niet dat je hem beklimt, maar de meeste Aussies doen dat natuurlijk wel...

Ok verder met de reis en aankomst in Sydney, wat qua vliegtuigbelevenis ook zeker bijzonder is. Over de stad heen, paar honderd meter boven de grond, raasde we naar het vliegveld. Ik was nu al vrij moe, maar kreeg wel meer energie nu ik eindelijk klaar was met reizen en zitten in een vliegtuig (777 is IMO ruimer dan een 747). En nu kon ik eindelijk uit het vliegtuig, maar niet voordat ik even mijn sandwich en bolletjes van Mevr. J. Woudstra had weggegooid, want de Aussies will liever geen ander voedsel hun land in. Bij de douane check was een lange rij, maar ik had blijkbaar de goede uitgekozen want ik was snel aan de beurt. Mijn baggage kwam ook vrij snel waardoor ik niet heel lang hoefde te wachten. Toen ik mijn sealbag eraf haalde kwam een security guy met hond eraan snuffelen. Eerst liep hij gewoon voorbij maar hij kwam even daarna terug en de hond rook aan mijn tas. Ik dacht even shit, wat is dit...

Maar ik wist dat er verder niks in zat, en de security guard vroeg "can I look in ur bag?" Ik zei 'sure' en deed mijn tas open. 'No food?', 'nope' , ok dus... 'did you have sandwiches in here b4?' en ja dus, de bolletjes van mijn moeder, nog bedankt daarvoor mam ;) . Maar dat viel dus mee, en bij de bagage check maakt de douane gast ook nog een grapje of ik nog stroopwafels en oliebollen mee heb genomen. 'Deze keer niet' en ik liep door de check heen, into Australia!

Toen met een shuttle busje, echt zo'n Suriname bus Juut, naar het hostel gebracht met twee andere Wake Up hostelgangers. Was vrij moe en ingechecked in mijn kamer, 4 persoons. Mijn kamergenoten toen waren 1 nederlands meisje, fleur, niet veel gezien want ze drinkt geen alcohol en was gewoon weg nooit op de kamer. Verder een meisje van Noorwegen, van wie ik de naam niet meer herriner, maar was heel aardig alleen ging ze de volgende dag alweer weg studeren in Newcastle, een plaatsje in het Noorden. En verder nog Fraser, van Canada, een super aardige gast waar je mee kunt lachen. Die avond gingen Fraser, Norway, meisje uit Ierland (ik moet namen opschrijven denk ik), en meisje uit Brazilie naar de bar beneden het hostel. Niet een superbar, maar wel verdomd dichtbij, en was een leuke avond. Betekende wel dat mijn jetlag lekker mee ging naar de volgende dag, wat ik dus ook merkte

Dag 2

Super jetlag

Opstaan, even lopen naar Darling harbour, super mooi en dichtbij haventje. Weer was ook super en ik leer de waarde van sunblock. Nog even een hapje eten met wat andere hostelers, en even wat gelezen. Tussendoor was ik al in slaap gevallen onderweg in Sydney, niet beroofd wel wat verbrand, maar tegen de avond moest ik weer slapen.

En dan wordt je weer wakker richting 12 uur s'nachts maar ik wou slapen want anders was er morgen weer Jetlag, dus ben blijven liggen en half geslapen.

wordt vervolgd ga nu in real time zwemmen in Wodan, een suburb in het zuiden van Canberra geloof ik. Verder nog wat actueel nieuws, presentatie gehad en ging goed, dus alles goed verder

Ah this is my first blog ever!

I could of course start of with an awesome post with great stories, and funny remarks of epic proportions. But I think my first blog should not have any other content than just my first post. So I won't spoil it any further with this yada yada, and just let it be the first post...

and take a moment of silence to enjoy this first post...

Dont be alarmed by the lack of content of this post, in the future this blog will contain more information and great stories, including pictures to support those stories, but at the moment I neither have the time nor the inclination to post more. En ik zal ook zoveel mogelijk talen door mekaar heengebruiken, auch Deutsch vielleicht, aber das is nicht ein gut idee glaube ich... ok good on yer mate!
